Deus Silentii

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 18 October 2026

Deus Silentii is a multiplayer aerial combat game in which your music flies your fighter. It has been designed to process as little personal data as possible: there is no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. Your music files never leave your device. Voice messages sent over the in-game radio are relayed to the players you choose and are never recorded.

This privacy policy explains, in a clear and comprehensive manner, which personal data is processed when you use the game, for what purposes, on which legal bases, for how long, and what your rights are. It applies to the Deus Silentii application for Android, including test versions distributed through Google Play, and to the game servers operated by Perihelie Labs.

1. Identity of the Data Controller

The data controller within the meaning of Article 4(7) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:

Name: René Obe, publishing under the name Perihelie Labs
Address: Schloßstrasse 2, 53115 Bonn, Germany
E-mail: rene@perihelie-labs.net

No Data Protection Officer has been appointed, as the conditions of Article 37 GDPR and Section 38 of the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) are not met. Any enquiry relating to your personal data may be directed to the data controller at the address above.

2. Overview

Most of what the game does happens on your device. Personal data leaves your device only in the following situations:

When you play offline against bots, no personal data is transmitted to us.

Providing the data described in Sections 3.2 to 3.4, and the titles and analyses of the tracks in your deck (Section 3.5), is necessary to play online; without it, you can only play offline. Showing your music and using the radio are optional.

3. Data Processed, Purposes and Legal Bases

3.1 Information Stored on Your Device

The game stores the following information locally, in its private application storage: your pilot name, your choices regarding the display of your music and the radio, the composition of your deck, the choice of menu music, the musical analyses computed for your tracks, and, for the duration of a session only, the tracks downloaded from Audius (Section 3.6). This information is not transmitted to us, except as described in the following sections.

Storing this information is strictly necessary to provide the game you have expressly requested (Section 25(2) No. 2 of the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act, TDDDG). Any personal data it contains is processed for the performance of the contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). You can delete it at any time by clearing the application's data or uninstalling the game.

3.2 Finding and Joining an Online Game

While the online game list is displayed, the application sends a short request once per second to our game server and as a broadcast on your local network. This request contains only the version of the game. Servers that receive it reply with a description of their games (arena, mode, number of players, time remaining).

When you join a game, your device establishes a connection with the game server. For this purpose, the server processes your IP address, the network port used and a random session identifier assigned to your connection. This data is necessary to deliver the game data to your device.

DataPurposeLegal Basis
IP address and portEstablishing the connection and exchanging game dataPerformance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR)
Session identifierDistinguishing the players of a game for the duration of the connectionPerformance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR)

Your IP address is held only in the server's working memory for the duration of the connection; it is not written to the server's logs.

Games hosted by other people on your local network, and which therefore also appear in the list, are operated under their own responsibility.

3.3 Pilot Name

Before your first online game, you choose a pilot name (16 characters at most). It is shown to the other players of the game you join: in the targeting frame, in the in-game news feed, in the pilot list and on the scores screen. We recommend that you choose a pseudonym rather than your real name. The server checks that the name is not empty and not one of the names reserved by the game.

Legal basis: Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

3.4 Gameplay Data

The game server is authoritative: it computes the flight of every fighter, judges shots and hits, and keeps the score. To do so, it processes the following data, linked to your session identifier:

DataPurposeLegal Basis
Control inputs (stick, fire, manoeuvres, track changes), several times per secondComputing the flight of your fighterPerformance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR)
State of your fighter (position, orientation, speed, hull, energy) and colourDisplaying your fighter to the other playersPerformance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR)
Shots, hits, pilots shot down, crashesJudging the fightPerformance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR)
Match statistics (pilots shot down, defeats, accuracy, best streak, nemesis and prey, statistics per track)End-of-match scores screen, displayed to the players of the game; statistics per track are shown to the other players only if you show your music (Section 3.5)Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR)
Plausibility checks on musical analyses and on hitsEnsuring fair play and preventing cheatingLegitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR)

Our legitimate interest in the plausibility checks lies in offering all players a fair game. These checks only reject data that is physically or musically impossible (for example, an analysis that no real track could produce); the only consequence is that the affected track or hit is not taken into account. They do not constitute automated decision-making within the meaning of Article 22 GDPR.

3.5 Your Music

Music files on your device. If you grant the corresponding Android permission, the game lists the audio files (MP3, OGG, WAV) stored in the shared storage of your device so that you can choose them. The tracks you choose are read and analysed locally, on your device (tempo, bass, loudness, key). Your audio files are never copied to our servers, never uploaded and never transmitted to other players.

Data sent to the game server. When you play online, your device sends to the game server the titles of the tracks in your deck (artist and title as read from the file's tags or name) and their musical analyses (numerical data). The server needs them to reproduce, on its side, the effect of your music on your fighter. These titles are not displayed to the other players, unless you have chosen to show your music (see below).

Showing your music (optional). If you tick the option "Show the other pilots the music you listen to" (unticked by default), the artist and title of the track you are currently playing are shown to the players who target you, to the pilots you shoot down, and on the end-of-match scores screen. You can withdraw your consent at any time in Options › Your pilot; the change takes effect from the next game you join.

DataPurposeLegal Basis
Titles and analyses of the tracks in your deckServer-side computation of the effect of your musicPerformance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR)
Artist and title of the track being playedDisplay to the other playersConsent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR)

The music you listen to may reveal personal tastes or, in some cases, beliefs. We draw no inference from it and build no profile; the titles are used only for the purposes described above.

3.6 The Default Playlist (Audius)

The game's default playlist is retrieved from the Audius music platform, operated by Tiki Labs, Inc. (United States), through its public interface. Your device then connects directly to the servers of Audius, which receive your IP address and the technical data of the request (in particular the identifiers of the requested tracks). The game identifies itself to Audius by its name only, without any account, user identifier or advertising identifier.

Downloaded tracks are kept in a private cache for the duration of the session only, and deleted when the game is closed and at the next launch. Only the musical analyses computed by the game are kept on your device.

For this processing, Audius acts as an independent controller, under its own Privacy Policy and its API Terms, which are also accessible from the game (Options › Credits and licences). We have no access to the data processed by Audius.

Legal basis for integrating the playlist into the game: Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). The playlist is not retrieved when you play without an Internet connection; the tracks shipped with the game then play on their own.

3.7 The Radio (Voice Messages)

The game lets you speak to the other human players of an online game through a "radio". This feature works as follows:

Please be aware that the recipients of your messages could record what they hear by other means, which we cannot prevent. Do not disclose information you would not want to share.

DataPurposeLegal Basis
Voice messages and their spectral shapeCommunication between players, at your initiativePerformance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR)
Radio status (on or off)Showing the other players whether they can talk to youPerformance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR)
Muted pilotsFiltering the messages between you and those pilotsPerformance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR)

Access to the microphone is strictly necessary for the communication function you expressly request (Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG).

3.8 Server Logs and Performance Readings

The game server keeps a technical log, which records in particular: the start and end of games; the arrival and departure of players, by session identifier; the pilot name chosen; the titles of the tracks of a deck rearranged on a runway, or of a track whose analysis has been rejected; the switching on and off of radios and the muting of pilots, by session identifiers; the metadata of voice messages (Section 3.7); hits, pilots shot down and other game events; and, every ten seconds, performance readings for each player (round-trip time, data received, accuracy of the flight prediction, frame cadence).

The log contains neither IP addresses nor the content of voice messages.

Purpose: operating and troubleshooting the game, ensuring the security of the server, investigating cheating and abuse. Legal basis: Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), consisting in offering a stable, secure and fair game. Retention: 14 days, after which the log is deleted automatically.

3.9 Google Play

The game is distributed through Google Play. Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC process the data related to your Google account, to the download and installation of the game and, where applicable, to your participation in a test programme, as independent controllers under their own privacy policy. Google provides us with aggregated statistics on installations and, if you have enabled the sharing of usage and diagnostics data on your device, technical reports on crashes and freezes of the application (device model, Android version, technical traces), which do not identify you directly.

Legal basis for our use of these statistics and reports: Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), consisting in correcting errors and improving the stability of the game.

3.10 Test Programmes

If you take part in a test of the game, we process the e-mail address of the Google account that you have given us, in order to add you to the list of testers in the Google Play Console, as well as the feedback you choose to send us.

Legal basis: Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Your address is removed from the list of testers at the end of the test programme or upon your request.

3.11 Contacting Us

If you write to us, we process your e-mail address and the content of your message in order to answer you. Legal basis: Performance of a contract or pre-contractual measures (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), or our legitimate interest in answering enquiries (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Your messages are deleted once the matter has been dealt with, unless statutory retention obligations apply.

8. Data Security

9. Minors

Deus Silentii is intended for persons aged 16 and over, in particular because its radio allows players to talk to people they do not know. As the game has no accounts, we cannot verify the age of players. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that a child under 16 has used the game, you may contact us; we will delete any data concerning them that we are able to identify.

10. Changes to This Policy

We will update this policy whenever the processing it describes changes, for example with the introduction of purchases, accounts or new features. The date of the last update appears at the top of this page. The current version is always available at this address and from the game (Options › Credits and licences). Material changes will be announced in the game or on its store page before they take effect.
